Les 2 Alpes
Les Deux Alpes offers 225 kilometers of pisted runs on 2,300 m of vertical drop. The resort is termed "upside-down", because the lower slopes down to the resort are steeper and more challenging than the higher ski areas, including the wide and forgiving glacier runs. Less advanced skiers either take a gondola down to the resort or follow a lengthy narrow track on the path of the access road. A wide area at the very bottom by the town is given over to nursery slopes. There are 100 marked runs and 51 lifts spread across the resort. In addition, it is said to have as much off piste as groomed piste, plus one of the most extensive and revered snowparks in Europe.
The resort of La Grave can be accessed from the very top lift at the Dome de la Lauze by either walking or at certain times by ski-tow behind a Snowcat. It is only recommended for advanced skiers under supervision of a qualified guide. A six-day ski pass includes two days in Alpe d'Huez, one in La Grave (only if the link is open), and one in Serre Chevalier.
The village itself sits at 1,650 m, and is France's second oldest ski resort behind Chamonix.
Summer Skiing
The largest skiable glacier in Europe (110 hectares of ski area), and one of the few remaining, allows almost year-round skiing. Lifts in Summer are only open from mid-June to the end of August. Summer skiing in Les 2 Alpes takes place between 2,800 and 3,600 metres on the Girose and Mont de Lans glaciers above the resort. The access to the glacier is via the Jandri Express gondola lift. A funicular railway tunneled under the ice transports tourists to 3,450 m.

Les Deux Alpes is so alive this summer: skiing, downhill mountain biking, huge snow park, swimming pool, skating rink, luge, adventure park, rafting... Plus all the bars and pubs full of people. Well worth visiting! Now with the freshly updated map of the glacier ski area, downloadable here. And don't miss the marmots on the other side of the village, on Pied Moutet.
Previously mentioned 'feature' of having both American and European ski maps rendered the same way is now fixed so that you can have them both on your GPS simultaneously, and rendered differently, according to American and European piste marking standards.
This map contains Les 2 Alpes, Alpe d'Huez and La Grave ski resorts.
